Who are the real water heros?

Steve Jobs "changed everything" we thought about computers, music and phones. Few of us want to return to an earlier era. You could say the same about Google and many other tech ventures.

(Some people would say the same about Al Gore with respect to climate change, but I'm not so sure.)

What I want to know is:
  • Who has had a huge impact on the way we think about water (drinking, irrigation, rivers, etc)?
  • What kind of change or message would we need to see to think different about water?
  • Who are the people who we do NOT know about but should, given their important impact?
