Using the Steripen to purify water

Here's my review of a handheld UV water purifier ($70). Pretty cool.

Bottom Line: Five stars for a small, convenient way to avoid sickness -- and waste!

  1. David: Tres cool! I have relied upon filtration gadgets with chlorine tab chasers. Boiling is impractical for people on the move. Too bad that the UV pen doesn't work for tacos in rural Mexico.

  2. I love this thing for day hikes. But it's important to remind folks who go more than 3-4 hours from potable water that they you are SOL with a Steripen and no battery...it's easy to leave the thing in your pack with a compass, jackknife and so on, forgetting to check the battery before you start.
