Subsidies are NOT sustainainable

Tracy Mehan says [pdf] that a "subsidized water or wastewater system is not a sustainable one. He says it certainly is not sustainable for the federal taxpayers doing the subsidizing and argues that the wastewater grants program in the Clean Water Act is an obsolete model..."

  1. It always saddens me to see any entity succumb to its addictions. The water/wastewater industry is no different. Having already bought into the "free" money concept pushed by the federal power brokers, it now finds itself groveling for more of the same. And the voters/rate payers don't get it either, insisting that the local utility get as much of that "free" money as possible. Will we ever learn.
